Plumbing leaks are among the most common calls we get here in Sandy Springs, GA, and in and of themselves, they’re usually not much trouble. A trained professional can either patch the leak or replace the faulty piping reasonably quickly and with the attention to detail that comes with qualified and licensed technical skills. The trouble comes with all the damage the leak can cause before then. A leak in the crawlspace can go for weeks or months without detection, and a leak that spreads water across your bathroom floor can be cause for a huge panic. The solution is to, well, to not panic, and instead to take some specific steps to deal with the issue.
Shut off the Water
If the leak is obviously located in a given fixture and you know how to shut off the water to it, then you should do so immediately. If you don’t know how to do that off the top of your head, then turn off the main water valve to your entire home. Every family member should know where this is and know how to use it in the event of an emergency. That stops the leaking in its tracks and gives you the time to consider your next steps carefully.
Call in a Repair Service
Patching up leaks is a job best left to professionals and the sooner you can schedule a quality plumbing repair service, the better off your home will be. Once you make the call, you should determine whether you can restore water to other parts of your plumbing and avoid the affected area until the plumber arrives, or simply make do without water until then. In the latter case, you may want to step out to a local mall or similar area until the plumber arrives. That at least will give you access to functioning toilets, sinks and drinking fountain.
